When a small town has something special that draws thousands or even millions of people to visit each year (national parks, ski resorts, wine tours, you name it), those small towns tend to grow. Park City is no exception, but yet we’ve somehow managed to keep the small town vibe amidst all of the growth.
When I moved to Park City almost 20 years ago, the lack of chain retailers meant frequent trips down to Salt Lake City, but now I’m having a hard time thinking of anything that I can’t get locally. We still don’t have an abundance of chains, but the local shops have diversified and stepped up their game. I mean, there’s even an entire store dedicated to olive oil and another one just for socks.
Some of my favorite things that you can get in Park City are the things made right downtown on Main Street — and I seem to be discovering more local products all the time!
One of my favorite semi-recent discoveries is Motherlode PC. Now that graphic tees have moved beyond the Coke logo and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles pictures, screen printed shirts are something I can get behind. Motherlode PC makes really beautiful shirts that say Park City if you’re looking for a souvenir to take home, and if you’re a local business needing logo gear, they can take care of your custom orders too.
I almost forgot the best part! Their shirts are super soft...none of those cheap shirts you normally start with when it comes to screen printing.
Whether you are a parent or not, we all have baby showers and baby gifts we need to take care of, and Cade & Co. is the absolute best place to go! There are a bunch of reasons why their leather shoes are great for babies (comfort, breathable leather, balance) but the most important thing is that these are the cutest baby shoes I’ve ever seen!* They have a lot of different styles in their shop on Heber Ave. and they will work with you to create a custom design if you’re not finding the perfect teeny tiny leather slipper.
* Author’s Note: I don’t have kids, so maybe those other things actually are more important than style. Editor’s note: I have a 10 month old and the most important thing is they actually STAY ON.
In addition to clothing that’s made downtown, we’re also lucky to have two local jewelry stores. Park City Jewelers and Woodbury Jewelers both offer jewelry repair and custom jewelry designs onsite, but they definitely have different styles. If you’re in the market for a custom piece of jewelry, a unique engagement ring, or a gift that will really wow your significant other, stop into both stores and talk to the artists themselves.
Maybe you didn’t notice, but as an added bonus, all four of the shops that I highlighted here also do custom orders so you can get exactly what you want.
Quite frankly, besides getting to and from the airport, there’s really no reason to keep making trips up and down Parley’s Canyon. You can get everything you need right here! Stay tuned upcoming blog posts will feature suggestions on where to find shoes, the latest and greatest in denim, and our tips on locally made sips.
