ERIN ISAKOV BOOK SIGNING

Join us in welcoming author Erin Isakov, celebrating her book Après Ski: The Scene, the Style, the Menu! Friday, November 28th @ 2 pm.

About the Book:

Skiing is more than just a sport. It's a lifestyle. A way of life.

For generations, skiers have traveled the globe to ski – and to indulge in the glamour, refreshments, vistas, and revelry following a great day on the slopes. Popularized in the Alps in the early 20th century, the French phrase “après ski” translates to “after ski” or “after skiing,” and can be defined many ways: cocktails at the famed Palace Hotel ice rink bar in St. Moritz, a game of snow polo in Aspen, a dip in the Manza Onsen in Japan, dancing on tables in Val d’Isère, France.

What happens after skiing has significantly shaped the culture of the sport for decades. Après Ski: The Scene, the Style, the Menu by style maker and award-winning designer Erin Isakov is a nostalgia-fueled visual celebration of all things après-ski: the best spots to visit around the globe, a survey of the fashion and style of the sport, and food and drink recipes for the quintessential après–ski menu.

“This book serves as a celebration of the many facets of après-ski, but it’s also a love letter to the wider world of skiing,” said Erin. “I am struck by the sense of escapism and joy that the world of ski culture has brought to humans around the world. People from all different walks of life share in the joy of skiing. Whether you are a serious skier or simply in it for the cocktails and nachos, the mountains bring us all together.”

In the pages of Apres Ski, travel back in time to visit legendary party spot Chesa Bar in Klosters, where patrons skied right up to the entrance to dance all night in 1951. Accept a cocktail from a tuxedo-clad server at the Grand Hotel des Bains Kempinski in St. Moritz in 1928. Take a spin on a snow bike in Crans-Montana in 1969. Relax in front of a fire, warm up your extremities, and enjoy a snack in cozy Stowe in 1957. Feeling inspired to take a ski trip?  Erin has curated resort recommendations for every type of enthusiast, from the ski-serious (Chamonix) to the ski-partiers (Ischgl) to apres-ski influencers (Aspen Snowmass) to families (Val Gardena).

No matter how long or hard you ski, the urge to splurge is justified. The tradition of having a drink after skiing is believed to have originated in Norway during the mid-1800s, when aquavit was passed around after a day on the snow to warm skiers. Mix up a popular and refreshing aperitif served in many ski resorts in the Alps, the Kir Royale; the quintessential après-ski concoction found across the Dolomites, the Bombardino; and visit one of the many craft breweries in ski country in the United States. Discover beloved regional culinary traditions with iconic recipes from every ski region around the world from the cheese fondue of the Alps to the poutine of Quebec’s Laurentian Mountains. Throw a party with Erin’s expert tips for planning an après-ski fête; or plan your next ski vacation with Erin’s recommendations for ski resorts for the gourmand (Niseko, Japan; Val Thorens, France; Alta Badia, Italy).

Après Ski is a stunning exploration of one of the world’s most stylish sports. Glide into a slope-side bar or make your way back to the base area to strip off some layers… it’s time for après-ski.
